In *Gateway of India*, Hanso is a bootlegger who lives with his brother Tony. His home becomes one of the many locations where the protagonist Anju seeks refuge while evading the two goons sent by her uncle Shyamlal. Anju, having escaped her uncle's plot to kill her for her father's property, stumbles into Hanso's residence. To avoid suspicion and buy time, she pretends to get drunk, performs a song and dance number, and then cleverly trips his guards before slipping away. Hanso is later among the rogue's gallery that congregates at the Gateway of India the next morning, where the police arrest the criminals. The film's ensemble cast includes Madhubala, Bharat Bhushan, Pradeep Kumar, Anita Guha, Johnny Walker, and Master Bhagwan.
